Cocaine Description: Cocaine is a powerfully addictive drug that affects directly the brain. Coke has been labeled the Drug of the 1980s and '90s, cause of its popularity and usage for this period. However, Cocaine is not a "New Drug". In fact, it is one of the oldest known Drugs. The pure chemical, Cocaine hydrochloride, has been an abused drug for more than 100 years and coca leaves, the source of Coke, have been used for thousands of years.

Pure Cocaine was first extracted from the leaf of the Erythroxylon coca bush, which grows primarily in Peru and Bolivia, in the mid-19th century. In the early 1900s, it became the main stimulant Drug used in most of the tonics/elixirs that were developed to treat a wide variety of illnesses. Today, Cocaine is a Schedule II Drug, meaning that it has high potential for abuse.

There are two chemical forms of Cocaine: the hydrochloride salt and the "freebase." The hydrochloride salt, or powdered form of Cocaine, dissolves in water and, when abused, can be taken intravenously (by vein) or intra nasally (in the nose). Freebase refers to a compound that has not been neutralized by an acid to make the hydrochloride salt. The freebase form of Cocaine is smokable.

Cocaine is generally sold on the street as a fine, white, crystalline powder. Street cocaine dealers dilute it with such inert substances as cornstarch, talcum powder, and/or sugar, or with such active Drugs as procaine (a chemically-related local anesthetic) or with such other stimulants as amphetamines.

Colombian and Mexican narcotic trafficking groups are the primary transporters and distributors of wholesale amounts of cocaine in New York.

Psychological dependence happens when using a drug becomes more important than other activities in an individual’s life. Due to its powerful euphoric effects, cocaine users might develop a strong psychological dependence upon it. Even after long periods of abstinence, strong urges can persist.
An individual who has become dependent upon cocaine may find it hard to stop using it. Those who have stopped consuming cocaine may be subject to relapse.

Is cocaine addictive?
Yes, cocaine is an extremely addictive substance.
Not everybody who consumes it becomes addicted. But if you do, it can be one of the more difficult drugs to quit. It is also difficult to stay off cocaine if you do quit, because the memory of the “high” feeling is so strong.
Individuals who become addicted to cocaine feel a strong urge for the drug, even when they know it causes them issues. Obtaining and using cocaine can become the most important thing in their lives.
Crack is the most addictive kind of cocaine. But any form of cocaine can cause addiction. It depends on how much you use, and how frequently you use it.
When you consume cocaine, you just don’t know what you're using. There are a lot of substances that look like a white powder and testing kits are not accurate, so there is no mean to know definitely what other substances are mixed in.
Powder cocaine can be modified into crystals referred to as “free base” or “crack.” They can be smoked in a pipe or in cigarettes mixed with tobacco.
Fast Fact
The chemicals utilized in making crack can catch fire easily, which adds to the hazard.
If you mix alcohol or other substances, it makes an overdose more likely.
